West End Transfer for Shoes The Musical

After the smash-hit world premiere at Sadler’s Wells, Richard Thomas and Stephen Mear’s fabulously original new show, SHOES, transfers to the Peacock Theatre for a limited eight-week run.

A celebration of one of the greatest passions of the modern age, SHOES is a song and dance spectacular that takes audiences on a journey from the lows of the croc via the agony and ecstasy of the stiletto, to the highs of the platform boot. Fresh from the pen of Richard Thomas (co-creator of Jerry Springer – The Opera) and the feet of top showbiz choreographer Stephen Mear (Sweet Charity, Mary Poppins), SHOES is a wickedly irreverent and affectionate look at the special power this seemingly innocuous item of clothing holds over many a shoe-addict.

Alongside Mear, SHOES displays the diverse choreographic talents of an A-list team of dance-makers; Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui (zero degrees, Sutra), Aletta Collins (The Red Balloon, The Tempest), Kate Prince (Into the Hoods) and Mark Smith (Deaf Men Dancing), who under Mear’s direction, have taken inspiration from Thomas’ hilarious lyrics to create dance numbers that reflect their own unique styles of performance.

Les Ballets Trockadero Programme One at Peacock Theatre

Formed in 1974 off-off Broadway in New York City, Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo – or as they are affectionately known, The Trocks – struck a chord with their inspired blend of parody and playful homage to the formal world of classical ballet. The twist – all the parts were played by men: the heroes and heroines, the villains, the swans, the princesses.

Thirty six years later, The Trocks have become an international phenomenon, subtly lampooning the conceits and manners of the Russian style in their all-male dance extravaganzas. They’ve played in over 500 cities (in 30 countries) and performed TV specials for Shirley MacLaine, Jennifer Saunders and the South Bank Show in London.

What makes the Trocks so beloved of aficionados and dance novices alike is the skill, athleticism and sublime comic timing that they bring to the stage, making their gratuitous gaffes and hilarious pratfalls so effortless and infectious.

Programme One features ‘abstract ballet’ ChopEniana, the Merce Cunningham-inspired Patterns in Space, the pas de six from La Vivandiere and Raymonda’s Wedding.

The 7 Fingers return to the Peacock Theatre in Psy

Following the phenomenal success of Traces in 2009, The 7 Fingers (Les 7 Doigts de la Main) return to the Peacock Theatre with a brand new circus show inspired by the rich and surreal underworld of the human psyche.

Psy pitches astonishing acrobatics against a landscape of distorted visions, fading dreams and fractured memories. The company of dazzlingly talented performers portray a broad range of characters who conquer their neuroses through the liberating power of circus skills – trapeze, juggling, Chinese poles, German wheels and aerial ropes become metaphors for overcoming psychological restrictions. By juxtaposing darker issues with the invigorating and life-affirming language of circus, Psy celebrates the power of the individual to overcome their ailments.
