Dirty Dancing Star Patrick Swayze Dies at 57

Famous Actor, Patrick Swayze, who attained heartthrob status in the movies Dirty Dancing and Ghost, died on Monday after a long battle with cancer; he was 57 at the time of death.  He was a talented actor, dancer, singer and songwriter.

Swayze was diagnosed in January 2008 with high stage pancreatic cancer.  He revealed his illness in March 2008 but continued to work on his latest project, A&E series The Beast and was optimistic about the outcome of his treatment.

He was best known for his lead role in the popular miniseries North and South, movies Dirty Dancing, Road House, Ghost, and Point Break just to name a few along with sharing his talent on Broadway and West End Theatre.  He was listed as ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ in 1991 by People Magazine.

Swayze is survived by his wife of 34 years, Lisa Niemi.  They had no children.  He was pre-deceased by his father and a sister.  Not only was he multi-talented in the entertainment field but he also bred Arabian horses on his ranches and had a pilot license.

He will be missed.
