Loserville: A new musical by Elliot David and James Bourne

A new musical Loserville which is created by Elliot David and James Bourne at the Garrick Theatre starring Aaron Sidwell, Eliza Hope Bennett, Stewart Clarke, Charlotte Harwood, Richard Lowe, Lil Chris and Daniel Buckley.

Welcome to Loserville! It’s 1971. Michael Dork may be a computer geek but he’s invented something that could change the world.

He’s also discovered GIRLS: a prospect (almost) as exciting as his love of binary.

Holly is THE girl: she has looks and brains and wants to be the first woman in space – well, this is 1971! But will she want Michael?

Eddie wants a fast ride to the top and doesn’t care who gets trampled along the way.

Leia just wants Eddie. Or Eddie’s babies – well, she thinks she does.

Michael, and his sci-fi obsessed, social-misfit friends, Lucas, Francis and Marvin are all set to change the course of history, fashion and dating – in no particular order, but just as soon as possible, especially the dating bit.

Loserville is a new musical written by Elliot Davis and James Bourne (inspired by his Son of Dork album Welcome To Loserville).

Now meet the Class of 1971. This is their story and now it’s a musical.

Pygmalion at Garrick Theatre – Stars Rupert Everett & Kara Tointon

BAFTA nominee Rupert Everett (St Trinian’s, An Ideal Husband) stars opposite Kara Tointon (Eastenders, Strictly Come Dancing) in this dazzling production of one of theatre’s most entertaining explorations of sexual politics and class restrictions.

PYGMALION remains one of the most popular of George Bernard Shaw’s plays, full of his trademark wit, style and provocative insights, as well as a beguiling and enduring humour. His other work includes Mrs Warren?s Profession, Arms and the Man, Candida and You Never Can Tell.

Everett plays Professor Higgins, a role that will reunite him with director Philip Prowse, with whom he previously worked at Citizens’ Theatre in Glasgow. Everett is perhaps best known for his film work where his credits include headmistress Camilla Fritton in the recent St Trinian’s remakes, The Next Best Thing, An Ideal Husband, My Best Friend’s Wedding, Dance With A Stranger and Another Country. He also features in the comedy Wild Target, directed by Jonathan Lynn, due to be released this summer.

Frances Ruffelle transfers to the West End at the Garrick Theatre on 12 Sep 2010

Following a sold-out Edinburgh season and a five star rave review in the Scotsman, Frances Ruffelle, one of the UK’s best loved and most talented musical theatre performers, returns to the West End for one night only on Sunday 12 September in Frances Ruffelle: Beneath the Dress, with her funky six-piece band and a dazzling array of songs.

From bursting into the public consciousness 25 years ago as the original Eponine in Les Misérables to most recently starring as Roxie Hart in smash hit musical Chicago, Frances Ruffelle’s distinctive sound has continued to delight her fans and captivate new audiences. A charismatic and vivacious show, Beneath the Dress is an alluring exploration of her musical influences from compositional giants such as Cole Porter, Duke Ellington & Kurt Weill, to lesser-known songwriting talents whose work she has been inspired by.

Having created the role of Eponine in Les Misérables in the West End, Frances recreated the role on Broadway for which she won the coveted Tony award, Helen Hayes award, Theatreworld award and Outer Circle Critics award for Best Actress. Frances hit the West End for the first time in The Sleeping Prince, by Terence Rattigan (in which she co-starred with Omar Sharif). She then took part in the original workshop of Starlight Express and subsequently played the role of Dinah for Trevor Nunn in the show’s first ever cast. She also created the role of Yonah in the original West End production of Children of Eden directed by John Caird.

Further stage adventures have ranged from appearing with Ian Dury in Apples at the Royal Court in London to playing Roxie Hart in the West End production of Chicago. Frances has performed concerts in London with the Tony Award-winning composer Jason Robert Brown and has played sell-out gigs at London’s Ronnie Scott’s with her Big Band.

Her multi-faceted career has also included four solo albums and representing the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994 with her hit song ‘Lonely Symphony’. She launches her new solo album, Imperfectly Me, imbued with her trademark sense of earthy realism rather than airbrushed perfection, on September 13th this year. At the end of 2010, Frances will be starring in Songs from a Hotel Bedroom at the Royal Opera House.

Produced by Neil Eckersley & Paul Spicer for Speckulation Entertainment and Stuart Piper & Jon Bath for Cole Kitchenn, Frances Ruffelle: Beneath the Dress is devised by Frances Ruffelle & Matt Ryan, directed by Paul Baker & Matt Ryan, with musical direction by David Barber, design by John Risebero, lighting design by Mike Robertson and sound design by James Tebb. It was originally produced by Danielle Tarrento.

This warts-and-all portrait of the Blockheads’ lead singer explores the highs and lows of Ian Dury’s extraordinary career and inspirational life story. Featuring many of his best songs performed live, including Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick and Reasons To Be Cheerful.

Publicly, Ian Dury was a cheeky chappie and purveyor of saucy lyrics. Privately, he was a flawed maestro wrestling with demons and disability. This brilliant drama sees him reunited with his tour manager and friend Fred ‘Spider’ Rowe, blending amazing music with powerful scenes exploring Dury’s incredible triumph over adversity.

Returning to London for three nights only after a sell-out 2009 premiere, and ahead of a major UK tour.
