Australia’s acrobatic infused sophisticated circus experiment which opens in the E4 Udderbelly at Southbank Centre from 29th May – 10th June.
The E4 Udderbelly on Southbank transforms into a laboratory of curious machines and acrobatic impossibilities for this literally experimental production. Old science meets new circus as the highly skilled performers from ThisSideUp attempt to control the uncontrollable in their much-awaited London premiere.
Controlled Falling Project has thrilled international audiences, with sell-out seasons and standing ovations across Australia and Europe, and wowing crowds and critics alike in Edinburgh last summer. Now this audacious circus production makes its London debut at the Southbank Festival, for two weeks only.
Three talented and curious acrobats, under the guidance of an eccentric drumming professor, test the boundaries of physics and the human body. Unnatural feats of gymnastic strength and muscular agility are incorporated with a bold exploratory approach to international circus disciplines such as the exhilarating Teeterboard (giant see-saw), the mesmerising Roue-Cyr (oversized steel hoop) and the formidable Russian Bar (flexible beam).
With an accessible theatricality, sophistication and skill rare in contemporary circus, ThisSideUp’s extreme energy stunts are matched in intensity with gracefully choreographed moments, giving you little chance to draw breath during this gravity-defying hour of entertainment.
‘Intelligence, strength and a significant wow factor…astonishing.’ The Guardian
‘Stunning…graceful…unique, inspiring and hard to tear your eyes from.’ The Scotsman
‘Grace, agility and seemingly super-human strength.’ Whatsonstage
‘Magnificent…brilliant.’ British Theatre Guide
