Holly Penfield, an established Jazz and Cabaret singer is starring in the Saloon Singer. This will be on at the New End theatre in Hampstead, London from 5th October until 24th October.
A show from Holly, whose notorious underground career spans over 35 years. ‘The Saloon Singer‘ is about her journey through the endless maze of show business hard knocks combined with her romantic childhood fantasy dreamed up while watching old movies starring Dietrich, Monroe, Hayworth, Garland, Minnelli, and Peggy Lee.
She’s sung with the likes of Elton John, Michael Jackson at the Brit Awards to name a few…She’s performed for Prince Charles…She began singing at the the age of 12, trained by the legendary vocal coach Judy Davis who coached Barbara Streisland. Achieving great success as a jazz cabaret singer, she appeared at Pizza on The Park, Cafe de Paris, China Jazz, and Scott’s on Mount Street – where she was, (like Sally Bowles) the toast of Mayfair!
Holly has appeared at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival where she presented her original and critically acclaimed show “Fragile Human Monster”. Holly returned to play the Edinburgh Fringe in 2005 and 2006, garnering glowing reviews from the UK press for her shows Holly’s Hot Spot and Both Sides Now. For this she won “Best Singer of the Fringe 2006” Award from Fringe Report.
Holly herself is a fine pianist whose serious song writing talents come to the foreground in her original compositions on her most recent CD “Both Sides Now” and the previous “Le Jazz Hot” recorded live at Pizza on the Park.
