Godfrey Johnson in SONGS MY LOVER FORGOT TO SING TO ME

Cape Town based cabaret artist, Godfrey Johnson performs a show featuring the work of well know artists such as Brel, Weill, Coward and many more including contemparary pop icons. He will also perform some of his own material including Wet Dream Blues, Hugh Grant and Take a Bow. An evening of crazy humour, poetry and song.

Blending humour and heartbreak, Johnson’s personal compositions and covers of works from renowned artists reveal the skill that has earned him a devoted following. The show will also give the audience an extra half an hour or so of performance featuring songs chosen by the audience, resulting in a totally unique cabaret experience.

After having worked for many years as a musician, director, composer and accompanying Pieter-Dirk Uys in his various cabarets, Godfrey Johnson shared the 2007 Fleur du Cap award for Best Performance in a Cabaret with Claire Watling for his work in Kissed by Brel which they recently performed at The Jermyn Street Theatre in London. He was also nominated for the same award in 2009 for his performance in Flirting with Coward, directed by Sanjin Muftić, which honoured the spirit and genius wit of the 20th century composer Noel Coward. Johnson’s previous collaborations with Sanjin Muftić included the warmly received tribute to women songwriters, Behind Every Man.

He has appeared in a number of musicals and television programmes and has performed at numerous festivals in South Africa, Canada and Holland.
