How’s the World Treating You? by Roger Milner

A comic gem returns to the London stage after forty-five years at Union Theatre, Southwark from 13th March to 7th April 2012.

Mrs More dreams of her son Frank becoming Headmaster at a top public school.  The world, however, seems to have other ideas.  If he is ever to realise his mother’s ambitions, Frank must overcome a rogue washing machine, a pair of missing trousers and a trio of lusty middle-aged women…

Channelling the spirit of Monty Python and The Goons, Roger Milner’s brilliantly surreal comedy follows one man’s efforts to fulfil his destiny, whatever the world throws at him.

Not seen in London since 1966, the original West End production transferred to Broadway and provided Patricia Routledge with a breakout part.  Spanning twenty years with a cast of six actors in multiple roles, How’s the World Treating You? will be presented at the award-winning Union Theatre in Southwark.

Following sell-out productions of Doug Lucie’s Progress and The Dice House by Paul Lucas, Silver Thread Productions continues its remit to revive overlooked twentieth century and contemporary British plays.

Irish singing star Tommy Fleming announces UK tour 2012

Ireland’s best kept secret comes to the UK this spring as multi-platinum selling singer Tommy Fleming opens his tour at Colston Hall Bristol on 10 March followed by a national tour (see tour list below).
Tommy brings his own beautiful interpretation of classic and contemporary songs such as Bridge Over Troubled Water, The Isle of Innisfree, Something Inside So Strong, “the best version of Danny Boy – bar none” (Eric Clapton), and many others you know and love. His recording and performing credentials speak for themselves; he has several platinum and multi-platinum albums to his name and has already brought his beautiful, haunting voice to audiences around the world, performing in prestigious venues such as New York’s Carnegie Hall.

Celebrating his 20th Anniversary in the music industry Tommy Fleming has many times been described as the “Voice of Ireland” and is one of Ireland’s top entertainers.

From a musical family, Tommy was born and raised on a farm where one of his jobs was to help milk the   cows.  Aged 6, Tommy claims he trained in the cow shed  – the acoustics were brilliant and the milking machine was in e minor!

While still at school his first rock band was born and he began a life of ”gigging” in local clubs and pubs, a chance encounter with Phil Coulter lead to a big break onto the world stage where Tommy appeared as a guest singer on Phil’s USA tour.

Upon returning to Ireland, Fleming was offered the vacant vocalist position with folk luminaries De Danann, a demanding position previously occupied by Dolores Keane, Mary Black, and Johnny Moynihan. He performed with the band for three years.

Shortly after securing a solo record deal everything looked set to flourish when a near fatal car accident left the singer with a broken neck leaving his music career on-hold indefinitely. After many months of convalescents, Tommy took time out to spend three months in famine-stricken Sudan, working with the relief charity GOAL  as a field operative administering medicine and giving food to children, giving Tommy time to re-evaluate his career.

Tommy returned to the stage having had to start over and is now regarded as one of the finest singers worldwide and is currently enjoying a hugely successful career spanning the last 20 years.

A Tommy Fleming concert is a musical experience not to be missed with one song more haunting than the other. He has a universal appeal to all ages and backgrounds with a fan base that is growing stronger worldwide year by year.

The 20th anniversary album “The Platinum Collection” was released on the 21st of October 2011.

Paul Daniels heads to London

Undoubtedly the most successful TV magician of the 20th century, Paul Daniels, the very lovely Debbie McGee and Paul’s son Martin Daniels will be continuing to enchant the UK audiences next spring in the second leg of their mammoth nationwide tour. Their critically acclaimed and much loved show ‘Hair Today Gone Tomorrow’ exhibits their unique hil-hairious art of comedy magic……and even better, Paul promises not to dance.  You’ll like this…not a lot (but you’ll like it!).

Whilst on holiday at the age of 11, Paul read the book ‘How to Entertain at Parties’ and since then he has been entertaining the masses, from tricks for his fellow servicemen during his national service to audiences in their millions on prime time TV. Opportunity literally Knocked in 1970 when Paul was spotted by a TV producer and he was soon hosting his own show The Paul Daniels Show (BBC1) with his future wife Debbie McGee for 15 years.

Paul became a magical star and hosted a number of other television series from Odd One Out, Every Second Counts, Wipeout, and the ever popular and fondly remembered Wizbit, all for the BBC. In recent years, Paul appeared on Da Ali G Show (Channel 4), Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway (ITV) and Strictly Come Dancing (BBC) and alongside Debbie on cult TV show When Louis Met…presented by Louis Theroux (BBC2), Wife Swap (Channel 4), The Farm (Channel 5), and The X Factor: Battle of the Stars (ITV).

With a reputation as one of the most popular men in show-business, Paul has entertained the likes of Prince William, Prince Harry, The Sultan of Brunei, The Sultan of Oman, Prince Rainier of Monaco, Barry White, John Major and countless others. His Radio 2 show Dealing with Daniels ran for 6 months and Paul performed at the Prince of Wales Theatre in the heart of the West End in his own show It’s Magic, one of the longest-running magic shows ever staged in London. He has also designed special effects for stage and screen including Cats, Phantom of the Opera, the Nutcracker and Hollywood movie Return to Oz. He has also developed a career in motivational speaking which aids business men and women in their speeches and presentations.

DEBBIE McGEE
Debbie’s career has spanned the widest range of show business genres, incorporating classical ballet, modern dance, cabaret, theatre, television and films. After finishing her training at the Royal Ballet School, Debbie joined the Iranian National Ballet until political reasons forced her to return to the UK. There she went into the more commercial side of dance and appeared on many TV light entertainment shows.

Passing one audition changed her life when she landed a role as dancer in the Paul Daniels Summer Show in Great Yarmouth and the rest, as they say, is history. Since then, Debbie fulfilled a lifelong dream as Artistic Director and choreographer of the highly successful classical ballet company, Ballet Imaginaire. As well as presenting the well-known classics Swan Lake and Coppelia, Debbie has created two completely new classical ballets, The Artist’s Dream and Phantom, and since June 2008 Debbie added the role of Radio DJ to her credits, as she now presents her own Sunday morning radio show on BBC Radio Berkshire.

MARTIN DANIELS
During his school holidays, Martin often helped his father with his magic props behind the scenes. At the age of seventeen, Martin took the plunge on a career in show business and has never looked back. He has appeared in numerous summer season engagements throughout the country, as well as several UK tours with artistes such as Jane McDonald, Lenny Henry, Les Dennis and MC Hammer.  He has also appeared in 20 pantomimes and a season at the Prince of Wales Theatre in ‘The Magic Man’ in London’s West End. Martin is also a published author, having penned a book entitled ‘Cunning Stunts’ which was later re-printed by Foulsham publishers as ’50 Best Betcha’s and Bar Gags.’ www.pauldaniels.co.uk

War Horse Adapted to Film

The phenomenal, widely adored play War Horse has hit the big screen. Steven Spielberg was moved by the book and play… War Horse ‘reached’ into his heart and ‘pulled something out of it’ making him want to make the film as soon as possible.  It’s his first film since 2008 and will be released in the UK on 13 January 2012 (note: Tintin was made after War Horse). Spielberg chose mostly British actors for the leading roles including Jeremy Irvine, Tom Hiddleston, Celine Buckens, and Robert Emms to name a few.  Though not much can replace the book and play, the film is sure to touch the hearts of its viewers.
